Who Are We?

We are group of people in the San Francisco Bay Area which meets at least weekly to help each other progress on the Path of Light and Sound Meditation. We hold group mediations and host philosophical discussions. This small group has organically grown over the last few years as the meditation has only been introduced by word of mouth. This is not a religion, it is a Spiritual Journey and hence there are no restrictions on who can and cannot join. We are truly an Equal Opportunity organization, open to adults of all age, all genders, all races, with or without religious beliefs. There are some very clearly defined lifestyle criteria that need to be met, all of which are in place only to ensure that the Journey is made as easy as possible.

Our Journeys

I started meditating over 10 years ago on this Path. I was introduced to this by someone I met at a business lunch; the conversation had dried up and it went to interests and then onto meditation. The experiences in the meditation that this person described to me were beyond any texts that I had read. I had tried other types of meditation before and experienced nothing more than just relaxation. So, here was a defined journey with a discrete number of steps, which could take you to the ultimate state of consciousness, and all I had to do was to try it for 6 months and then experience the first step for myself. No cult. No catches. I tried it. It delivered. And it delivered far more than I could ever have thought off…

“Meditation is beauty, bliss and love. What started for me as a means of finding a little peace, turned out to be a lot deeper than I could decipher. It’s been only three years, since I have been meditating, and everyday I have appreciated the gift that I received in the form of Light and Sound meditation. I got glimpse of things unknown to my mind . I felt the stillness which is always there. And the music that exists in the silence, makes meditation and this journey so beautiful for me.”

My journey on this path began about 3 years ago, and it started out of pure curiosity. For the longest time, I had heard people talking about the Light and Sound meditation, and what benefits it offered, but I was not inclined to try it for my self. All of a sudden, one fine day, I decided that I had had enough of hearing about it, and that I was going to try for my self, after all, what did I have to lose?. That was the beginning of an amazing journey for me. The mediation has given me much more than I could have ever imagined, and I am very excited about what it still has to offer. The meditation has changed my life in many positive ways - my health has improved, my outlook on life is more balanced, I am more at peace with myself and my environment and finally, I have been able to reach a level of stillness that is very hard to describe, other than “total contentment, total bliss” . This is definatley something that you have to tryout for yourself to even begin to imagine what is being described here!

I have been on this journey of self discovery for nearly four years. Pursuing this path is a very natural thing for me to do. I grew up in a family where this environment was encouraged by reading of spiritual and religious books, philosophical discussions and by attending spiritual discourse by great yoga masters. Proclivity for meditation always existed but I had no prior experience with any other form of meditation before joining Light and Sound Path. Here, I met people who had achieved their goal of self –realization through Light and Sound Meditation. This inspired me. The Path has helped me in my quest for harmony, equanimity and the inner meaning of life.

At some point in our lives we raise our eyes heavenward and ask, “Why? What is the purpose of this? Of my life? Why, why, and why?” Although I started asking these questions during my teen years, I did not really search for the answers. I am not a believer in organized religion, and I did not want to join any structured group that tilted one way or the other. I stumbled upon the Light and Sound Path through friends, and was very pleased at the simplicity of the approach. Meditating using this method has become a way of life, become part of me. I have found peace, tranquility, beauty, love, and so much more. I feel profoundly bound to everything around me - and yet at the same time, I feel free.”

My meditation practice and introduction to the Path occurred 6 years ago through a close childhood friend. At the time I was dealing with a family tragedy and unsuccessfully trying to reconcile my personal feelings and reactions to the situation. In hindsight I now realize, I was questioning the meaning of my life.

My friend, without addressing my feelings or questions, quietly suggested I attend a small meditation group that was meeting locally for nothing more than an opportunity to be still for a time and “observe what happens”. Skeptical but curious, I began to meditate and within 6 months had observed changes in myself that without doubt were beyond mere relaxation, and experienced a level of joy and acceptance of myself that was unfamiliar to me.

Most importantly, my mediation practice has provided me with a path to know the meaning of life in the course of my lifetime, and the discovery of the ultimate truth beyond all limits.

It was in my graduate school years ago when I was first introduced to this meditation, at a meeting to discuss philosophical topics (the meetings used to be called discourses) to which one of my hostel wingmates dragged me to. I was struck by the energy and candor of the presenters. I come from a family with deep religious upbringing, and have practiced religion good part of the adolescent life myself and the undergraduate years. However, I was also aware of some of the sayings in the Upanishads, viz., Aham Brahosmi (Sanskrit for I’m “the all pervading brahman“, or the Universal self or God or whatever is the BIG thing you want to call!) So, It was a persistent quandary that I had in mind at the time - if there is something BIG in me already, why is that I’m going around to find the God everywhere else but within me? Well, philosophical discourse I happened to attend - really nailed it - they said, you can realize God yourself through this meditation, and you can do it this lifetime, now with the help of the teacher. The discourse was a music to my ears as it really connected the dots on my philosophical quandary. It was liberating to hear the possibility of realizing this BIG thing yourself without running around place to place searching for what’s essentially right within you! It was a simple deal - there is no belief system, you meditate and you realize. Being a science student with engineering background, I could take what they said to be a good working hypothesis, something I could give it try and great if it works (I can see that all for myself!)

So, I did. I was introduced to a couple of introductory tools to meditate - breathing techniques and a personal mantra (a set of syllables with potent energy). These tools seemed to have worked as I achieved a greater degree of stillness and focus (I used to be conflicted somewhat about the religious mantras that I was supposed to recite, so I kept myself open to both those fronts.)

After some more years of basic meditation, it was time for the first big thing on the Path - revelation of Light and Sound energies. As I sat down meditating during a course of a long weekend, I was given those energies and once revealed, I was not only able to realize these energies within myself and but I was able to access and meditate with these energies all by myself! Truly wonderful experience, first ever taste of my own true nature that’s beyond the mere physical or mental identities that I had.

Ever since my first stage revelation of Light and Sound energies, I have been meditating on the Path, making the Path the foundation of my life. The Light and Sound energies I meditate have guided me through tough times, continue to give me the stillness and focus and help me appreciate the deeper meaning behind the writings of sages since times immemorial - from the Bhagavad Gita to Adi Sankara’s Viveka Chudamani - a superb discourse of Duality and Non-duality (Advaita), from Kabir’s super sufisms to Lao Tzu’s Te Ching. The tools this Path taught me are real as I and many others who are so fortunate to have heard about the Path would find. This Path opens up the journey, the Spiritual Journey whose ultimate destination is the Unity, or the realization of the absolute state, the state that is self-created and is infinite, a state that has no beginning, no end, has no judgment or discrimination. This is the age-old Path, reinforced by firm foundation of living energies of Light and Sound.
