How To Get Started

Fundamental Requirements

There a very few requirements to beginning Light and Sound meditation, but it is imperative to appreciate the significance of these 3 conditions before one begins on this path. Apart from investing the time to meditate and bringing that into your routine, there is no other lifestyle change that is required.

The three fundamental requirements are:

  • to be a vegetarian
  • not to consume alcohol and
  • not to partake in recreational drugs (all prescriptions drugs are acceptable).

A brief explanation will be offered for these three fundamental requirements, but also refer to the FAQ section and other references. With regards to the vegetarianism - when animals are killed, their energy is still contained within the physical flesh and ingesting this flesh, this energy is transferred to us and the net result is that it becomes harder to become still. The energies of the animals are detrimental to meditation. With reference to alcohol and recreational drugs, both affect the central nervous system which directly impairs a person’s ability to focus correctly during meditation. The objective is to achieve a highly aware but neutral focus (without any expectations or judgment) and with tools such as Mantras to become Still to truly begin to experience new realizations and revelations.

Getting started

If the preparation is done appropriately, and the teaching is followed, the results will speak for themselves. This is a personal experience, not something you read about, rather, what you realize and understand as the Journey unfolds. It is best to meditate in a quiet environment, where there will be no disturbances; always take time to set the mood. Do all of the things that will help you to relax before you start. For example: turn off any communication devices; write down any pressing things that are on your mind which you may be worried about forgetting; give yourself time to unwind and relax a little.

Get comfortable

This is absolutely critical. Get as comfortable as possible, use cushions to sit on, as many as you need, and a blanket incase you get cold. It is not necessary to sit in a half or full lotus position. Sitting comfortably is more important, use any support needed to help but do try to keep your back straight. While you are meditating, if needed, make any adjustments to your position to get comfortable. Once comfortable, start with the breathing.

Breath Meditation

This is an extremely relaxing form of meditation and hence an ideal place to begin. Breathe in a series of four steps.

  1. Inhale through the nostrils whilst gently pushing your stomach out, (this helps the lower lungs to expand), then fill your upper lungs as you expand your chest outwards. Try to make this one smooth in-breath motion, filling your lungs from the bottom to the top. Do this for a count of 4.
  2. Hold your breath. Do this for a count of 4.
  3. Exhale from your nostrils, letting the air out of the upper lungs first as your chest drops, then gently pulling your stomach in towards your spine to expel the air out of the lower part of the lungs. Again, try to do this in a single smooth out-breath motion, also for a count of 4. Hold your breath for a count of 4, with the stomach still held in the pulled in position.
  4. Repeat the process again. Continue repeating this cycle, slowly building up your time to at least 15 minutes.

Mantra Meditation

We use a number of very powerful Mantras which have been created to help the meditation in a number of ways. You will be given a personal Mantra, ideal for re-balancing your system. All that is required is for you to relax and repeat your personalized Mantra. Over a period of time which is comfortable for you, the total meditation time can be increased.

Light And Sound Meditation

Light And Sound Meditation is the next stage of advanced meditation. In this stage, you will be revealed subtle phenomena called Light and Sound energies. This cannot be attained without a Master or Guru who is able to teach and take the person through this step. The reason is that each one of us are bound by the limits created by the physical body and the mind and their interactions. The mind cannot transcend itself or know anything beyond it. Hence, the need for the Master to help you transcend these limits.
